In June of 2007 Press On board president Rick Collins met with the Pastor and leadership of the FBC, Camaguey, Cuba. During this meeting the Pastor (Abel) expressed the needs facing his college age group. He invited Rick to bring a group to help his church establish a camp for his college aged students. Rick was able to brainstorm with the leadership of FBC and a camp theme, a camp schedule, and camp goals were established. When Rick returned home he developed eight Bible studies to interpret the camp theme of "Credible Witness" that would be used during the camp. His good friend and Cuban interpreter was able to translate these studies (large group lectures & small group discussion guides) and get them to the leadership of FBC several weeks before camp. In August of '07 three "Press On Missions" board members, along with two members of FBC, Rio Rancho, NM, traveled to Cuba to help give leadership to this first ever college camp. The camp took place for 4 days from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and was organized into two color groups with eight teams in each color groups. Each day the small groups had two large group Bible study times taught by the "Press On Missions" team. The color groups then broke into 16 individual small groups to participate in a time of discussion and application. Each one of these small groups had leaders selected by Pastor Abel and his leadership. In the small groups these leaders acted as facilitators and used a small group discussion guide that was written to complement each large group lesson. These small groups also participated in two recreation times each day. On the last day of camp there were over 240 students (17-25 yrs) participating and over 50 leaders involved. Over 30 students came to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. It was a special time of fun, fellowship and the studying of God's word. One young man who accepted the Lord approached one of the board members and said, "I came today to play the games because my friend told me that the games were a lot of fun. But I heard God's word and it touched my heart." Pastor Abel told "Press On Missions" board members this was the first college aged camp of if its kind in all of Cuba. He was very pleased at what took place and the potential these students have to make an impact in his church, the community and his country. Pray that God will continue to grow and challenge these students. Also pray that God will continue to keep the doors open to ministry opportunities in Cuba.
