In the summer of '07 Press On Missions sent a team to FBC of Camaguey, Cuba to help them to establish a college camp and train their leadership to be self sufficient in conducting this camp in the future. Because of a loss of several key leaders, Pastor Abel, the Pastor of FBC Camaguey, asked us to bring a team again the summer of '08 to be with them the first two days of camp to help encourage and strengthen their leadership. Our POM team had expected to only be at the camp for two days, but found out when we arrived that they made plans to start the camp a day early since we would be coming in a day earlier than we had originally planned. Things got off to a shaky start the first day of camp because the busses delivering the college students were late in arriving. This put our team over an hour off schedule, but we were able to work things out and get the schedule back on track. We met with their leadership and shared with them the need to keep things on schedule. We were very impressed with their effectiveness to get the students registered and into groups this year. This year's theme was "Fight Fire with Fire", which is a study on the Holy Spirit we made available to them in Spanish. POM board members Dennis Rohlmeier and Rick Collins taught the large group lessons on Friday, Saturday and Monday. Each day the schedule called for two Bible study times and two recreation times. Press On Board member Kit Collins did a great job of getting his 12 Cuban referees going in the recreation which involved 12 different games over the course of the 4 day camp. It was an awesome experience to watch the students engage in the Bible study and recreation times. We averaged about 230 students and leaders and had a high attendance of 266 on Saturday. Donations allowed for each of these students and leaders to attend camp for free! We feel our team accomplished our goals of encouraging the camp’s leadership and better training them to be self sufficient for next year.
