Having been granted permission by the U.S. Treasury department, a team of 4 current Press On Missions board members traveled to Moa, Cuba in August of 2004. They took in all needed supplies for the camp and God worked several miracles which allowed them to get all the camp supplies through Cuban customs. Because there was no campsite or venue to hold the camp they were forced to be creative. They approached the camp as though it were a Vacation Bible School. Camp ran for 4 days and students came at 5:00 pm each day and left to go home at 9:00 pm. Students did not have to be fed or housed during the course of the week, which is a HUGE obstacle in a communist country with little or no resources.
Students were divided into two color groups by age: A Red color group was made up of junior high age students and a blue color group was made up of high school aged students. Each color group had 8 teams. Each team consisted of two family group leaders and 10+ students. During the course of the 4 hours each day the Press on team was able to implement the essentials of a youth camp experience: a quite time; a praise & worship time; a recreation time; a large group Bible study time; a small group discussion time; and a celebration time. Camp started the first day with about 80 students and grew to about 175. It was an awesome experience and something that was far beyond the Press On team's expectations. The smile on the Pastor‘s face was priceless.
