Cuba Camp 2006

In February of ‘06 Press On board President, Rick Collins, traveled to Camaguey, Cuba to visit his good friend Pastor Abel, who had just accepted a call to the largest Baptist church in Cuba. Because of the huge success of youth camps at Pastor Abel′s former church in Moa, he requested Rick to consider bringing a team to conduct a youth camp for his new congregation. One unique thing about his new church is it had recently completed building a camp grounds located about 10 minutes from the church on the outskirts of town. This camp ground is unique in Cuba and the potential for ministry is unlimited. It provided opportunities for camp programming that were not available at his church facilities in Moa. Rick met Pastor Abel′s leadership team and shared the camp vision with them.

He left camp resources in their hands and gave them assignments to complete before he arrived with a team in July. In July a team of 6 arrived in Camaguey to give leadership to the camp. (5 of these are currently on the Press On Missions board.) The camp was organized into 4 color groups with 8 teams in each color group (for a total of 32 teams.) The youth camp took place from 10:00– 3:00pm for 4 days. The last day of camp there was a total of 377 students present. About half of those who attended were unchurched students. A total of 76 students come to know the Lord as Savior. The Press On Missions team did a great job of mentoring the First Baptist Church, Camaguey leadership team, and by the third day the Press On Missions team was able to step out of a "point" leadership role and let their leadership take charge. In ‘07 First Baptist Church, Camaguey will use resources provided by the Press On Missions team for their youth camp and will not need outside assistance.

Camp Report

YOUTH CAMP 2006
Camaguey, CubaCuba Camp 2006

  • Date of Camp:  August 2006
  • 377 Teenagers + leadership
  • Our team helped Pastor Able Gonzalez, Pastor of FBC of Camaguey, establish this camp at his church.
  • Press On Missions provided scholarships for all these students to attend camp at no cost.
  • Because of limitations at the venue the camp was held like a day camp.  Teens arrived at 9:00 am and went home at 4:00 pm.
  • We bussed the students in each day.  As students would go home each day they were challenged to bring their lost friends the next day.  Each day the camp grew as Christian teens got a vision about bringing their friends.  Camp started out at 150 teens and grew to 377 by the last day.  It was awesome watching the Lord work!
  • A recorded 75 salvation decisions!!
